Whether you are a writer, an artist, or a business-oriented person, creativity may be something you crave. In fact, you may rely on it for your job. But it isn’t as easy as just pulling creativity out of thin air, is it? No, many people struggle to find that “inner voice” that tells them exactly what to do. But maybe that’s not what being more creative is all about. Maybe it’s about practice and dedication. Here are several ways to get creative when inspiration is few and far between.
Creative Tips for Being More Creative
Be creative
Creating without any inspiration behind it may sound counter-productive. But as many professional artists, musicians, and writers will tell you, you must DO. That means doing everything you can to be creative. You can paint, write, build, or whatever–as long as you’re creating. Before you know, that writer’s block would have cleared up, or you’ll have an idea for your next project.
Find solace in silence
Maybe you can’t find silence. Maybe you’re a busy stay-at-home parent who also works full time from a home office. That’s okay too. You can still find the “silence.” It’s all about eliminating distractions and embracing that “bored” feeling. Many people have found that taking a break from social media or television is a good way to get back into the groove. Those things are only distractions, after all. If you feel bored or anxious, just let go and move on to something more productive. It’s a great way to clear your head.
Exercise
When in doubt, work it out. You don’t have to totally exert yourself at the gym or run a mile. All you have to do is get the blood flowing to your brain. Often times, when we find ourselves uninspired and finding creativity is too difficult to even think about, we’re not getting physical enough and not enough blood is going to our brain. Maybe all you have to do is go for a walk and you’ll find that being more creative is suddenly so much easier.
Enjoy the work of others
Sometimes it’s as easy as listening to the spoken words of someone else in your industry and sometimes it’s enjoying something you love. But in any case, it’s always good to indulge in the creative works of others. You can’t force inspiration but if you find yourself enjoying something truly, then inspiration is bound to come shortly.
