On the creative path, perhaps the most difficult task is finding inspiration. You can’t just will it into existence and even when you’re working hard, creativity doesn’t always happen. But, wait. All is not lost, as there are ways that make getting inspired possible. You can learn how to find inspiration fairly easily if you know where to look.
Easy Ways to Find Inspiration
Take a break
Have you been hammering it out for a little while and can’t seem to get any ideas? A quick mental break may be all you need to completely refresh that creativity. Try going on a walk to get some fresh air or throw in a load of laundry. Doing something physical is the easiest way to get those creative juices flowing.
Let’s say you’re a writer. The best advice anyone can give you is to write, no matter what. When you’re trying to write and you can’t think of anything special or nothing spectacular comes out, write anyway. Come back to it later and look at what you’ve written down. We can almost guarantee it isn’t as bad as you thought it was.
Sometimes all we need for a dose of inspiration is to read a book or an article. Getting ideas from other sources is literally what inspiration is all about, so open yourself up to the amazing things people have already created. Reading also helps with your mental focus and exercises your brain. This is very similar to taking a mental break. All you have to do is relax and enjoy what you’re reading.
Get rid of distractions
It’s good to know how to find inspiration, but sometimes all you need to do is clean up your house and set aside the distractions to find the focus you want. Often times, there is a mess that needs to be cleaned or another task that needs doing, which also leads to feeling distracted and drained. In these cases, try to get that other thing or mess cleaned up first. You will be surprised how much lighter you feel when that responsibility is done. Then, focus on getting your environment clean and distraction free.
